At 42, the captain of the French blind football team, who won gold at the Paris Paralympics, is postponing his retirement until the Euro 2026 in France, and intends to continue campaigning to defend the societal role of sport.

That day, he felt truly lost. Disoriented and stunned, Frédéric Villeroux, at the start of the French blind football team's first match at the Paris 2024 Paralympics against China. "It was as if I had hit a wall head-on, the crowd pushed us so hard from the start," says the captain of the French team. "It was the first time I no longer knew where I was on the pitch. Usually, we play in front of a few dozen people. There were 12,000 in the stands supporting us.
